Internal lapses and anti-left sentiment led to poll defeat, says INL

KOZHIKODE: The INL state committee has issued a candid post-mortem of its recent electoral performance, attributing losses in the Lok Sabha and local body polls to a surging "anti-Left sentiment" and a perceived drift from core socialist values.

In a critical self-assessment, the party leadership admitted to a failure in diagnosing the roots of their decline. While the committee stopped short of blaming "anti-government" sentiment, it pointed to a growing disconnect between the leadership and its base. The committee noted that a "deviation from Leftist and Socialist ideals" has left party workers disillusioned and angry.

The committee identified that a lack of corrective action following previous defeats prevented the party from regaining public trust, while simultaneous organisational failures and policy lapses hindered the growth of constituent partners within the front. Furthermore, a failure to address grassroots issues or provide timely solutions resulted in a significant disconnect that further alienated the electorate.

Seeking to bridge the gap with its cadre, INL President Ahammad Devarkovil and General Secretary Kassim Irikkur announced an intensive grassroots outreach program. To mark the party's 33rd anniversary, a year-long series of events is planned through April next year. This will kick off with statewide district conventions on the 31st, alongside commemorative programs designed to honour the legacy of former party stalwarts and reinvigorate the rank and file.
