New political party targeting pro-BJP Christians likely to be announced today

KOTTAYAM: A new political party is being formed in Kottayam by assembling Christians who are pro-BJP. The political party is being formed by an organization called Kerala Farmers Federation. Cardinal George Alencherry will inaugurate the party announcement function to be held at Ann’s International Convention Center at Erayilkadavu in Kottayam this afternoon.

BDJS president Thushar Vellappally is also participating in the organization formation ceremony targeting pro-BJP. The Kerala Farmers Federation is being formed under the leadership of former Kerala Congress chairman George J Mathew. This is also part of the BJP's efforts to raise the issue of Munambam and garner minority votes as the local body and assembly elections approach.

Meanwhile, Youth Congress and SFI leaders, who are at odds with the party leadership, have joined the BJP in recent days. Advocate Shine Lal, former state secretary of Youth Congress and independent candidate from Thiruvananthapuram constituency in the last parliamentary elections, and 20 KSU and Youth Congress leaders joined the BJP.

Gokul Gopinath, former district president and state vice president of SFI Thiruvananthapuram, also joined the BJP the other day. Gokul Gopinath is a member of the CPM Kudappanakunnu local committee and secretary of the Mannadi branch. He was the SFI district secretary and state vice president from 2021 to 23. He had worked as a member of the Kerala University Senate and Syndicate. However, the CPM informed that Gokul Gopinath was expelled earlier.
