THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Left and right fronts are facing a threat of rebels in the capital. Five rebels are contesting as a threat to the LDF and the UDF in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation.

Strong rebel candidates are in the fray against the LDF. The LDF is facing a rebel threat in Vazhottukonam, Ulloor, Kachani, and Chempazhanthy wards. CPM local leaders are contesting against the LDF. The leadership tried to persuade them until the last minute, but to no avail. The ones in the fray are K Sreekandan in Ulloor, a former local committee member and former Deshabhimani bureau chief, who has levelled allegations against Kadakampally Surendran MLA; and Annie Ashokan in Chempazhanthy, a former block panchayat president. Nominations have been filed by Local committee member KV Mohanan in Vazhottukonam ward, Nettayam Satheesh in Kachani and N.A. Rasheed in Vizhinjam.

The UDF faces a rebel threat in four places. Nominations have been filed by Sudheesh Kumar in Poundukadavu, former councillor Krishnaveni in Punchakari, INTUC constituency president P Lalu in Kazhakkoottam, and Youth Congress leader Sisaine Hussain in Vizhinjam. The League is contesting in Poundukadavu and the RSP is contesting in Punchakari. In addition, the Kerala Congress faction is also contesting in five seats following a seat dispute.
