THRISSUR: BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that he will contest the Kerala assembly elections to be held next year. The BJP president made the disclosure at the Thrissur Press Club. He said this in response to a question from journalists on whether he will contest the assembly elections. Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that it is 100 percent sure that he will contest and can also reveal the constituency if necessary. It was after this that Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that he would contest from Nemom. When asked if Shashi Tharoor would join the BJP, Rajeev Chandrasekhar replied that he had no hope of that.
Nemom is BJP's stronghold in Kerala. A BJP candidate won a seat in the assembly for the first time in Kerala from here in the 2016 assembly elections. O Rajagopal defeated V. Sivankutty by more than 8000 votes. However, in 2021, V. Sivankutty regained Nemom by defeating Kummanam Rajasekharan in a close contest. K Muraleedharan was the UDF candidate. Rajeev Chandrasekhar was leading in Nemom when he contested against Shashi Tharoor in the Thiruvananthapuram parliamentary constituency in the last Lok Sabha elections.
Nemom is also a constituency from where the BJP has many councillors in the corporation. Rajeev Chandrasekhar announced his candidacy by breaking the usual procedures. Parliamentary parties announce candidates only close to the elections. The state president has revealed the constituency from which he will contest, with more than four months left for elections.
