THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a heartwarming celebration of medical achievement and human tenacity, KIMSHEALTH hosted a get-together of liver transplant recipients, marking a significant milestone — the successful completion of over 200 liver transplants, including both adult and pediatric cases. The event, lit up by the inspiring stories of strength and recovery, was graced by renowned artist Lakshmi Gopalaswamy. KIMSHEALTH also announced the launch of its Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and IEM Clinic.

Delivering the presidential address, Dr. M. I. Sahadulla, Chairman and Managing Director, KIMSHEALTH, expressed immense pride in the department's journey and its outstanding outcomes. “The Department of Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant at KIMSHEALTH is among the best in the world, and the results stand as testament to that,” he said. He further added that “organ donation is a divine act, as it gives someone a second chance at life — a truly noble deed.”

In her inaugural address, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy praised the unmatched efforts of the doctors at KIMSHEALTH, calling them the true heroes for their commitment to turning critical situations into stories of survival. “It’s a joy to meet those who are thriving after liver transplants. Though the journey can be challenging, we must remember that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. With endurance, much is possible,” she said.

Dr. Shabeerali T.U, Senior Consultant, Department of Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Liver Transplant, while highlighting the department’s achievements, noted that among the 200 transplants performed, the five-year survival rate at KIMSHEALTH stands at 96%, matching international standards. He also shared that KIMSHEALTH holds several distinctions — including performing the state’s first liver and kidney transplant, first split liver transplant, and a liver transplant on a baby weighing just 2.9 kg.

Dr. Anu K. Vasu, Associate Consultant, Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Liver Transplant, welcomed the gathering. E.M. Najeeb, Co-Founder, KIMSHEALTH, offered felicitations. Dr. Shiraz Ahmed, Senior Consultant and Clinical Chair, Transplant Services, proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Madhu Sasidharan, Senior Consultant, Department of Gastroenterology, was also present at the function.
