It is common to face various difficulties in train travel. Sometimes the train is delayed, the AC does not work, the route is changed in special circumstances, etc. Have you heard of the system where passengers get a refund in such cases? The railways have a system in place to refund you if your train journey is disrupted due to these reasons.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) offers passengers the option to file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) in a number of situations. Passengers can file a TDR through the website www.irctc.co.in.
TDR must be filed within a certain time after the journey. For example, if you cancel your journey because the train is delayed by three hours, you must file a TDR before the scheduled departure time. Similarly, if you are downgraded from AC to a lower class or if the AC breaks down, you must file a TDR within 20 hours of the train reaching your destination.
Other situations where TDR can be filed include coach changes, route diversions and short termination of trains. According to the IRCTC website, passengers can get a refund if they file a TDR within 72 hours of the train's departure if trains are diverted and do not reach the boarding or destination stations. The Indian Railways aims to improve passenger satisfaction through this process.
