Stalk full of bananas for 'just' Rs 5.83 lakh: Auction of Chengalikodan bananas becoming talk of the town

THRISSUR: A bunch of Chengalikodan Nendran Banana went up for auction for Rs 5.83 lakh. The Nendran Banana bunch, which costs Rs 1,000, was auctioned for a record amount at an auction held at St. Mary's Assumption Church in Ayyanthole. It was the CLC unit of the church that acquired the Nendran banana.

It was a joint auction. Rs 5.83 lakh was the amount bid by everyone together. The entire amount will go to the church. The auction was held at the conclusion of the festival of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the church the other day. Various family units of the church, including the Ayyanthole Pulikali Sangham, participated in the auction. The auction was organised under the leadership of Vicar Fr. Varghese Edakkalathur to raise funds for the activities of the new church, which is under construction.
