THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The number of people infected with contagious fever in Kerala has crossed one lakh in two weeks. Along with this, throat infection called 'laryngitis', which causes hoarseness, is also increasing. Even though the fever may be low, laryngitis causes a severe sore throat and hoarseness for days. Many people are seeking treatment in hospitals with this condition.

Experts say that the reason for the increase in Contagious fever is the extremely hot weather during the day and the cold at night. The influenza strain causes throat infections. Cough and severe fatigue are symptoms of contagious fever. As of the 16th, 1.11 lakh people had sought treatment for fever. Although contagious fever is not life-threatening, patients should see a doctor to ensure that there are no other causes for the fever if it does not subside within the first three days.

Leptospirosis, dengue fever, and diarrheal diseases are also increasing. Food poisoning is being reported due to food spoiling quickly in hot weather and unclean water. Chickenpox also becomes widespread with the onset of heat.

Voice rest for a week

Ernakulam Medical Centre ENT specialist Dr. V.D. Pradeep Kumar said that antibiotics are not necessary for sore throat and hoarseness. Patients should rest their voice for a week if they suffer from laryngitis. They can take mild painkillers and antiviral medications if necessary.

Contagious fever cases: 1.11 lakh

Dengue fever: 201 cases, four deaths

541 people under treatment with symptoms
