THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI leader C Divakaran's remark that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan eats only A-class fish and that he left Anathalavattom Anandan's house without having lunch because he did not like tuna was a topic of discussion on social media the other day. Health expert Dr. S.S. Lal explains that tuna is not a simple fish but a powerhouse of nutrition. Dr. Lal noted that tuna contains a lot of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D and vitamin B12 required by the body.
Tuna helps improve heart health and supports brain function. Since it is commonly available in the coastal areas of Kerala, it is easy to include it in a healthy diet. Tuna is a very popular food in countries like Japan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Philippines, Spain, and Italy. It is used in dishes like salads, sandwiches, and pasta. Similarly, canned tuna is a common food in many countries in Europe and the United States.
Lal also pointed out that high-quality tuna, which is used in expensive dishes like sushi, is one of the most loved foods in the world. Therefore, tuna is not a food that the rich hate. Some may not like its taste or smell, but when you consider its health benefits and nutritional value, there is no need to hate tuna. Lal says that tuna becomes a delicious and healthy food when cooked properly.
