Space is not like on Earth. Astronauts have to adjust to many things, including food and clothes. The main problem is that they cannot wash dirty clothes. Now, Chinese scientists have come up with a solution to this.

China claims that this is a washing machine that uses an ultra-fine mist and ozone to clean clothes without using water or detergent. The China Astronaut Research and Training Center (CARTC) team says that this washing machine is in the shape of a cube. That is, it is slightly larger than a suitcase. It weighs about 12 kilograms.

Instead of detergent, this machine uses ultraviolet rays to produce ozone. This is a good disinfectant. Even if astronauts wear this garment up to five times, it remains sterile.

Astronauts do not wash clothes on the International Space Station because water is a precious and scarce resource, and there are no facilities for washing. Instead, they wear their clothes for several days or even weeks until they are too soiled, then dispose of them by sending them on cargo resupply missions to burn up in Earth's atmosphere.

Features of this washing machine

  • No water or detergent required.
  • The disinfectant feature of the machine will keep clothes sterile and hygienic.
  • This washing machine cleans clothes using mist and ozone.
