THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister R Bindu told the press that the proposal to convert the best colleges into constituent colleges is under active consideration. The aim is to raise the standard including excellent faculty and research facilities.
10 government colleges will be considered in the first phase. They are Thiruvananthapuram University College, Ernakulam Maharajas, Palakkad Victoria, Thalassery Brennan etc.
As part of the implementation of e-governance in all varsities and colleges, software called K-REAP (Kerala Resources for Education Administration and Planning) will be developed. The curriculum will be revised as part of the restructuring of undergraduate courses. The recommendations of the 3 commissions to comprehensively reform the higher education sector will be implemented in a timely manner.
"Our universities should rise to the list of top 500 universities in the world. It should achieve good ranking at the national and international level so even foreign students seek admission here. All higher education institutions should get accreditation within 2 years to ensure quality", the minister said.
Minister Bindu will inaugurate the 'Excellence-23' program which honors the institutions that have achieved NAAC grading on 10th at 11 am at RSET Auditorium, Rajagiri Valley, Kakkanad. 'NAAC' chairman Prof. Bhushan Patwardhan will deliver the keynote address. "In the state, 13 colleges have A++, 23 colleges have A+, Kerala University has A++, Sanskrit and CUSAT varsities have A+ grades. In Kerala, there are 194 govt aided colleges, 88 government colleges and 756 private colleges.", Bindu added.
Constituent college
Colleges that are performing well and are on par with universities in the fields of academics and research. Qualified teachers will be appointed here. Additional funding for infrastructure development at regular intervals. Nearby colleges will be connected with these. These have a separate governing body and are continuously linked with university centres.
