NEW DELHI: The Kendra Sahitya Akademi has announced the Bala Puraskar Award and Yuva Puraskar Award for 2023. Sudha Murty, writer, engineer and wife of Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murty, won the Bala Puraskar Award in the English language category.
The award is for the story collection 'Grandparents Bag of Stories'. Sudhamurthy was selected for the award by a jury comprising Professor Dr A Jamila Begum, Rana Nayyar and Professor Manju Jaidka. In the Malayalam language category, the Bala Puraskar Award went to Priya A.S. The selection was made by a jury consisting of Dr Paul Manalil, BS Rajeev and Mundoor Sethumadhavan. The novel written in the backdrop of the 2018 flood also won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi award for the best children's literature novel.
In the Malayalam language category, the youth award went to Ganesh Puthur for his poem 'Achante Alamara'. The awardee was selected by a jury consisting of Dr. MN Vinayakumar, Dr. Geetha Pudussery and Dr. Nedumudi Harikumar. The prize is Rs 50,000 and a plaque.
