THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: From the time she joined his life till his last days, VS Achuthanandan's wife Vasumathi was with him like a shadow. Vasumathi's house is in Kodamthuruth, Cherthala. Once, Vasumathi, who was listening to VS's speech at a party meeting in Kodamthuruth, was approached by local leader TK Raman and asked how Comrade's speech was. Vasumathi was listening to that speech with great admiration.
Later, Vasumathi completed her nursing studies at Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad. Later, when she started working, she received a telegram from home asking her to come immediately. When she reached home, she learned that her wedding was fixed and that the groom was VS Achuthanandan, the party's district secretary and Ambalapuzha MLA. VS, who had been thinking of not getting married, changed his mind at the age of 43, thinking that he would need a partner when he got older. Vasumathi was 29 at that time. The wedding took place at 3 pm on Sunday, July 16, 1967, at the Narasimhapuram wedding hall in Mullakkal, Alappuzha.
The police took VS into custody during the Emergency from his home. Vasumathi's ability to watch her children, Asha and Arun, and to balance work and family life helped VS to devote himself to full-time public service.
