THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Action has been taken to dismiss police officers who are accused in criminal cases. Sunu, the accused in the gang-rape case which was recently registered by Thrikakkara police, will be dismissed first. Beypore Coastal CI PR Sunu is accused in six cases including rape. Sunu. He has been subjected to departmental action 15 times. DGP Anil Kant issued a show-cause notice to Sunu under Section 86(c) of the Kerala Police Act. If a police officer is physically, mentally and behaviorally 'unfit' for work, then he can be dismissed under Section 86(c). Based on this, DGP has ordered to dismiss Sunu from service. The action is taken with the permission of PSC.

The dismissal order shall be issued as soon as the reply is received within three days of the notice. Sunu's two salary increments were withheld in the case of harassing a SC woman while working at the police academy. Judging that this punishment was insufficient, the DGP summoned the old file and ordered his dismissal. Cases and proceedings against Sunu have been mentioned in the notice. Apart from rape, Sunu has also been accused in financial fraud. The pre-dismissal notice was delivered to Sunu's home in Njarakkal, Ernakulam, by a special messenger. Sunu, accused in the Thrikakkara rape case, is currently under suspension.

DGP's report

The DGP had earlier recommended to the government that Sunu should be given the severe punishment in the force, which is dismissal. Sunu's past actions make him unfit to continue in the force. Four out of six criminal cases are related to rape. The rape charges against him while working in Kochi, Kannur and Thrissur is serious. In most places, the complaints were victims. He was also remanded in one case.
