ALAPPUZHA: A mother–son duo was arrested for ferrying banned MDMA from Ernakulam and selling it in their hometown. Souravjith (18) of Ambalapuzha Karur ‘Kausalya Nivas’ and his mother and lawyer Sathyamol (46) were arrested in front of a hotel in Paravur by the District Anti-Narcotics Squad and Punnapra police. Three grams of MDMA were recovered from them.
The police said that the two were leading a luxurious life through drug sales that consisted of buying drugs from Ernakulam several times a month and selling them in their hometown. Sathyamol, an advocate at the Karunagappally Family Court, made best use of the lawyer insignia sticker on her car to escape police inspection.
A special room was even set up in their house to smoke cannabis. The youths were regular visitors here at night. During a search conducted by the Ambalappuzha police at the house, 2.5 grams of MDMA, 40 grams of cannabis, 2 grams of hybrid cannabis, OCB paper and plastic covers used for smoking cannabis were seized. The district anti-narcotics team had been monitoring them for months.
Based on the confidential information received by District Police Chief M.P. Mohanachandran, the District Anti-Drug Squad led by Narcotics Cell DySP B.Pangajakshan and Ambalappuzha DySP K.N. Rajesh, Punnapra SI S.Arun, Senior CPOs Rajesh Kumar, Abhilash, and CPOs Muhammad Sahil and Karthika arrested the accused.
