MT's mortal remains to be kept for public viewing till Thursday 4 pm; two days of mourning in state

KOZHIKODE: The funeral of Malayalam's great literary figure MT Vasudevan Nair will take place on Thursday. The ceremony is scheduled for 5 PM at the public crematorium on Mavoor Road in Kozhikode. MT's mortal remains will be kept for public viewing at his residence until 4 PM. He had been undergoing treatment at the Baby Memorial Hospital in Kozhikode for the past few days and passed away at 10 PM on Wednesday.

As a mark of respect for MT, a two-day mourning period has been declared in the state. All government events scheduled for the next two days, including the Cabinet meeting, have been cancelled. Several prominent figures from the field of politics, literature, and culture have expressed their condolences. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan offered condolences, stating that Kerala has lost a genius who brought Malayalam literature to the world stage.

Opposition leader VD Satheesan said that MT was the pride of the nation. Actor Kamal Haasan also expressed sorrow over the loss of the great writer. Minister MB Rajesh, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi, KPCC President K Sudhakaran, former Minister ET Mohammed Basheer, Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, and many other prominent figures have expressed their condolences following MT's demise.
