Basic salary of central govt employees to increase up to Rs 26,000

NEW DELHI: The basic salary of central government employees will be increased from Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000 after Holi. This is as per the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission. Holi is on March 8. After that increase in fitment factor may also be decided.

Now the general fitment factor is 2.57 percent. If the basic pay is Rs.15,500 in 4200 grade pay, the total pay will be Rs.39,835 (15,500 x 2.57). Several meetings have been held regarding increasing the fitment factor. The government has decided to implement this before 2024.

Lakhs of central employees have been demanding that the fitment factor be increased to 3.68 for some time. It was reported that the dearness allowance of government employees may be increased in March 2023. The house rent allowance has been revised by the Ministry of Finance.
