Vigilance arrests two doctors for taking bribe to perform surgery

THRISSUR: Two doctors were caught by the vigilance in Chavakkad taluk hospital while accepting bribes for surgery. Gynecology doctor Pradeep Varghese Koshy received Rs 3,000 and anesthesia doctor Veena Varghese received Rs 2,000 for a medical procedure.

A woman, native of Pavaratti's Poovathur, was admitted to the hospital on Monday for the removal of a uterine tumor. The said doctors demanded bribe from her husband. After the complainant informed the Thrissur Vigilance DySP Jim Paul, a trap was laid and Dr. Varghese Koshy and Dr. Veena Varghese were caught while receiving the amount in their private practice rooms in front of the hospital.

Dr. Pradeep Varghese Koshy took bribe even when the complainant's wife was subjected to female streilization two months ago. The police also raided the doctor's house in Kunnamkulam.
