E-POS adopting new shape

E-POS machines stopping work while the beeline waits for ration was an ever-happening scene in Kerala. The authorities ran out of options to handle the situation. However, after long beseeching and recommendation, the government is finally looking confident of bringing some new measures which could shipshape the whole system. BSNL hitherto provided a bandwidth of 20 Mbps which according to officials made more than 65000 E-POS systems stop working gifting pain for people waiting. After some careful business with BSNL, the company has agreed to increase the bandwidth to 100 Mbps to help the ration shops in the state-run efficiently. Meanwhile, minister G R Anil held a discussion with staff from NIC Hyderabad who recommended bringing in new software to ensure no jamming hereafter for the E-POS system.

The NIC employs also brought in the example of Bihar. The state tops for the number of people getting rations. In such a state, for a long two years, no E-POS damage has been registered. Things are all plain sailing. While in Kerala, the ration shop owners go crying foul saying the big rush has turned the E-POS system down. Many accuse the ration shop owners of illicit business behind the veil of the E-POS drama. If the new software was introduced at least two years before, all such rubbish claims could have been disputed long back.

From April 1 to 30th, the government is giving service camps for ration shop owners to learn more about the intricacies of the E-POS system. Meanwhile, many people complained about not receiving any notification of the ration collected on their mobile phones, the government has given C-DAC more than Rs one crore to establish such options. The minister in the meeting warned the C-DAC officials to rectify the issue at the earliest.
