NEW DELHI: After nine hours of interrogation in connection with liquor policy scam, ED let off Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao's daughter K Kavitha. Rumors were rife that Kavitha would be arrested after today's interrogation. However, ED has directed her to appear again on March 16.
The investigation team had earlier issued a notice asking Kavitha to appear on March 9 for questioning. But, citing her hunger strike scheduled in Delhi on Friday seeking the introduction of the Women's Reservation Bill in parliament, she asked the ED to postpone her questioning to today, which the central agency had agreed. In the wake of the ED action, Telangana ministers had reached Kavitha's residence. Meanwhile, Chandrasekhar Rao had responded the other day that there is a possibility that Kavita might be arrested on Saturday.
Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested by the ED after he was summoned for questioning in the same case. Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leader Kavitha was last interrogated by the CBI for more than seven hours on December 12. Malayali businessman Arun Ramachandra Pillai, who was earlier arrested by the ED on charges including money laundering, is Kavitha's business partner. Manish Sisodia is the first accused in the case and is currently in ED custody.
