THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain has been predicted in the state today. Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod districts are on yellow alert. Isolated heavy rain is predicted. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) defines heavy rain when there is a rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Rain with thunderstorm is expected.
In the next three hours, there is a possibility of moderate rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph in isolated places in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. In addition, the IMD has informed that there is a possibility of light rain in isolated places in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Palakkad districts.
Rains will continue in the coming days. A yellow alert has been issued for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow and for Kannur and Kasaragod districts the day after tomorrow.
Authorities have warned that those living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides and flash floods should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
