THIRUVANATHAPURAM: A Raja MLA disqualified by the Kerala High Court will challenge the verdict in the Supreme Court. The decision was taken in the CPM state secretariat. The CPM will approach the Supreme Court against the high court verdict canceling the Idukki Devikulam assembly elections. The decision was taken in the CPM state secretariat. They have decided to file an appeal tomorrow. The order was a blow to the Left Front while the assembly session was going on. The high court also annulled the victory of A Raja who reached the assembly as MLA from Devikulam constituency.

The court disqualified Raja after found that he did not belong to the Scheduled Caste community. The case against Raja was filed by D Kumar, the UDF candidate. Kumar lost to Raja by 7,848 votes. He had alleged that Raja is from a converted Christian community and had submitted fake certificates to make himself eligible to contest for the assembly seat reserved for Scheduled Castes. The court directed to hand over the copy of the order to the election commission, assembly speaker and the government.
