CHENNAI: The Madras High court on Tuesday has rejected the pleas filed by O Paneerselvam (OPS) supporters against the election of Edappadi Palaniswami as AIADMK general secretary. The election was held last Sunday, but the court had given strict instructions that the results should be declared only after the verdict on the pleas. Besides dismissing the petitions, the resolutions of the General Council of last July were accepted. With this, the new bylaws of the party were legalized.
The EPS and OPS factions started fighting over power after Jayalalitha’s death. The issues worsened after party general council at Vana Nagar. The council decided to dismiss the dual leadership system and appoint Palaniswami as the temporary general secretary. And Paneerselvam was expelled from the party. This decision led to a long legal battle.
