KOZHIKODE: The discovery of dead bodies of the three missing passengers on the tracks after Elathur train fire incident is getting murkier. Three bodies were seen within a distance of few meters but the body of 2-year-old Sehra Betul was found on the same track of the ill-fated train. The investigating team is yet to reach a conclusion on how the toddler’s body reached the track.
The dead bodies of the other two victims – Noufeek and Rehmath were spotted on the tracks near the rail crossing but there were no burn injuries on their bodies and this makes things more complicated. It seems all three deceased fell down through the door located at the right-hand side of the train moving towards Kannur. Both Noufeek and Rehmath had head injuries suggesting that they hit the tracks while falling down from the Alappuzha-Kannur Express. As per medical reports, loss of blood from a wound on the leg has led to the death of Sehra.
According to people who recovered the body of Sehra, the toddler’s body remained warm and it’s uncommon that dead bodies remain warm for that long time. This suggests that the toddler survived the fall after the fire but was hit by another train that passed through the same track later on.
Police are also weighing the possibility of Shahrukh Saifi pulling down the three victims from the train while trying to flee. The dead bodies were visible from the Elathur railway station but it was recovered after several hours. The failure of railway employees on duty in spotting the bodies also raises suspicion.
