THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government is planning to stop the two points given as school weightage for the students getting admission for plus one in the same school where they studied in the tenth class. This is based on the assessment of Prof V Karthikeyan Nair Committee entrusted to study the problems in plus one admission. The panel also said that this would sabotage the merit. The committee also proposed that the marginal seat should not be increased and no additional marginal seats should be permitted in the present higher secondary batches.
Though there are 50 students in a batch, the government allows marginal seats to admit more students after admission starts. This will affect the standard of learning. There is also a proposal to reduce the number of batches that do not have enough children in the respective districts and allow more batches if needed.
However, teachers are of the opinion that reducing the batches in southern districts due to insufficient number of students will make it difficult to get admission in rural and tribal areas. National Informatics Center, which has developed a single window software to solve allotment related issues at various stages, will discuss with experts. The final report of the committee will be submitted to the government in two weeks.
