THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Railway has decided to rechristen Nemom station as Thiruvananthapuram South and Kochuveli station as Thiruvananthapuram North. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will announce tomorrow the Rs 496 crore project done to revamp and make elite the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station on par with the airports in the country.

As per the railway’s findings, many north Indian tourists are unaware of the Kochuveli station's proximity to Thiruvananthapuram. If failed to secure a Thiruvananthapuram ticket, many North Indians are dropping the trip to the south. The rebranding of Thiruvananthapuram stations is partly done to attract more visitors from other states ergo adding to railway revenues.

The development programs will be centered around the Kochuveli-Thiruvananthapuram-Nemom section. Hitherto run trains up to Kochuveli will be extended to Nemom and Thiruvananthapuram. More trains towards Nemom will be a respite for the big rush during work hours inside the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station. Railway has declared Rs 116.57 crore for the Nemom terminal project.

Most travelers boarding down at Kochuveli are experiencing difficulties reaching the city by road. More connectivity to the National highways in Nemom will prove to be a help unlike the hassles experienced in Kochuveli.
