Couple suffers burn injuries in Thrissur; wife dies while undergoing treatment; reason behind fire not clear

THRISSUR: A woman, who suffered burn injuries in Thrissur, died while undergoing treatment. The deceased is Koratty native Sherly (54). Sherly's husband Devasy (68) is undergoing treatment in critical condition. The incident took place at around 3.45 pm on Sunday. Police are yet to find how the couple suffered the burns.

The fire and smoke rose from the verandah of the first floor of the house. It was the locals who rushed the two to the hospital. The couple had been undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Medical College Hospital.

The Koratty police are conducting an investigation to find out the reason behind the fire. Sherly, who was a teacher at St Thomas UP school in Karukutty, had voluntarily retired from work some years ago. Devasy is a taxi driver. They have two children.
