Woman sustains serious injuries after fridge explodes

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman sustained serious injuries after her fridge exploded. The woman has been identified as Girija Sathyan (59) of Nagaroor Kadavila Pulluthottam Nani Niwas. She sustained burn injuries all over her body. Only she was at home at the time of the incident.

Girija was standing outside the house. After smelling LPG gas leak, she opened the kitchen door and entered inside. Soon the double door fridge exploded. The fire brigade reached the spot and extinguished the fire.

Her neighbors hearing the noise came to the house and found Girija seriously burnt. She has been admitted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. She sustained 50% burns.

The officials of the fire brigade said that no signs of gas leakage were found. The preliminary conclusion is that the compressor unit of the fridge may have exploded.
