THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has emerged as the topmost performer in NITI Aayog's annual health index report for 2020-21. Kerala came first in the previous years as well. Tamil Nadu and Telangana are in the second and third positions.
The ranking is based on a composite scoring system with 24 health indicators in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the World Bank. NITI Aayog determines the ranks of states and union territories on the basis of year-on-year progress and overall performance. The ranks are divided into 19 large states, 8 small states and 8 Union Territories. Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana topped the list of large states. Uttar Pradesh (18) and Bihar (19) are at the bottom.
Among the smaller states, Tripura, Sikkim and Goa topped the rankings, while Manipur fell to the bottom. Lakshadweep ranks first among Union Territories and Delhi at last.
