NEW DELHI: Delhi police dismantled tent and dragged the protesting wrestlers from Jantar Mantar, while on the other side of Delhi, the PM-led cavalcade of ministers was sharing the jubilation over the new parliament building. The wrestlers were taken into custody while the police turned against media persons and barred them from entering the premise.
The arrested women wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Sangeetha Phogat, and Sakshi Malik were later released from custody. Meanwhile, male wrestler Bajrang Punia still remains under custody.
The wrestlers were dismayed over the accused BJP leader Brij Bhushan Singh being invited to the new parliament inauguration ceremony. The wrestlers had earlier announced that they will hold a 'Mahila Mahapanchayat' protest in front of the new Parliament building inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today at any cost. Also announced that Khap panchayats of various states would reach here to support the wrestlers. Tight security was arranged here following that. The protestors moved forward despite all this. Barricades were erected in three places on the road to prevent them from proceeding.
