THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A man who came to inquire about an accident case turned against the police and attacked a duty officer. Police later took custody of this man but more drama unfolded. The man fainted inside the station and was rushed to the medical college for treatment. Medical college native Shahin(30) was admitted to the hospital. The incident took place inside Poojappura police station at 3 pm yesterday.
According to police, an accident took place near Vettamukku in Poojappura premises when a fish-carrying lorry crashed into a car. The police reached the spot and took both vehicles into custody. Shahin who reached the Poojappura police station tried opening the car. Senior civil police officer Renjith who was on GD duty stopped Shahin. A war of words ensued between the two and later Shahin attacked Renjith injuring the latter's hands and legs. Shahin was grounded after more police officers turned to help. Renjith was taken to Peroorkada Hospital for treatment. Shahin meanwhile fainted inside the station and was taken to a private hospital before shifting to medical college. According to the doctor's version, Shahin is stable. The police have registered a case against Shahin for attacking and obstructing police duty.
