THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A relative said the suspects targeted the girl in the incident of beating her father to death on her wedding day in Varkala. A woman, the girl’s relative told media that they committed the murder as a revenge for rejecting love.
She said, ‘The incident happened early Wednesday morning. I came out hearing cries and sound of some things breaking. Saw the group holding her uncle (Raju) to the wall and beating. Saw one of the accused Chikku slapping Sree Lakshmi. The four-member team also beat Sree Lakshmi’s mother when she tried to prevent them from attacking them. The relatives present there also tried to disperse the team but failed. Sree Lakshmi also sustained injuries.
One of the accused identified as Jishnu had proposed to Sree Lakshmi two years ago. However, the family was not interested in marrying her, an MSc geologist, to Jishnu, who has a criminal background. Sree Lakshmi was reserved and does not mingle with anyone.
Raju objected when Jishnu's family came with the marriage proposal. Raju told them that they were not interested in inter caste marriage and will not marry her to him as family background was poor. Jishnu was a troublemaker at home.

When Raju was taken to the hospital, the accused had arrived there to know the matter. The woman's relative said they escaped after knowing Raju’s death.
