PRAYAGRAJ: The Yogi government built 76 flats on the land seized from the slain former MP, Samajwadi Party leader and gangster Atiq Ahmed. The government flats were built for the poor. These flats are built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The flat owners were selected by drawing lots on June 9.
The chief minister handed over the letter allotting the flat to the owners. Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Maurya inspected the flats and spoke to the children there. Out of 6000 people who applied in Prayagraj Development Authority, 1590 people were selected as eligible.
‘Before 2017, any mafia could occupy the land of the poor, businessmen or even government institutions. The poor man could only watch all this. However, now the government has built houses for the poor on that land seized from the same mafia. This is a great achievement.' Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said.
Atiq Ahmed, accused in more than 100 cases, and his brother were shot dead by a group of people in April last year. The murder happened while he was being taken for medical examination while in police custody. Atiq Ahmed was attacked after he was sentenced to life imprisonment in the kidnapping case.
