PATHANAMTHITTA: There will be a departmental probe into Afsana's allegation that she was beaten by the police to testify in Naushad missing case. The departmental probe was ordered following the Chief Minister's intervention. Pathanamthitta District Additional SP R Pradeep Kumar will investigate the police action in the case and submit a report as per the direction of the South Zone DIG.

The other day, Afsana had alleged that she was brutally beaten by the police to say that she had killed and buried her husband Naushad. Afsana, who was in jail in the case, made the allegation while responding to the media after getting bail.

According to the police, Afsana gave a statement during the re-investigation that she had killed and buried Naushad, who went missing a year and a half ago. However, a turning point occurred in the case when Naushad returned alive.

The police later said that although the murder charge against Afsana has been dropped, the charge of cheating the police by giving a false statement will remain. However, Afsana made serious allegations against the police soon after getting released on bail. Afsana said that she was subjected to brutal torture in police custody. She said that the police tortured her with pepper spray and that she was forced to admit to murdering Naushad as she was not able to bear the pain.
