'This is the voice of women and it must be heard!'; WCC about release of Justice Hema Commission report

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) has applauded the release of the Justice Hema Commission report, which sheds light on the challenges faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. In its Facebook post, WCC stated that the Hema Commission report was released due to their continuous intervention.

The WCC was formed in 2017 following the attack on an actress. It was on the recommendation of the WCC that a committee was formed under the leadership of Justice Hema to study the issues faced by women in the film industry.

It has been a long journey for us! We believed that our fight for justice for all women wanting a dignified professional space in the film industry was the right fight. Today we stand vindicated. The publishing of the Hema Committee report is another step that WCC has taken. This is the first time in the history of Cinema that we have a report of how gender works in the Film Industry. We thank Justice Hema, Ms. Sarada and Dr. Valsalakumari for the long hours they have spent to create this report.

Women in Cinema Collective is deeply thankful to the media , The Kerala State Vanitha Commission, the people of Kerala, all women’s organisations and lawyers for the consistent follow up and support.

We sincerely hope the government will take all necessary steps to study and act upon the recommendations. This is the voice of women and it must be heard!
