Veeyapuram Chundan wins Nehru Trophy, maiden win

ALLEPPEY: Veeyapuram Chundan emerged victorious in the thrilling Nehru Trophy boat race of this year. Champakulam Chundan came second. Veeyapuram Chundan rowed by Pallathuruthy Boat Club, Nadubagam Chundan rowed by UBC Kainakary, Champakulam Chundan rowed by KTBC and Kattil Thekkethil rowed by Kerala Police are the ones that competed in the finals. Veeyapuram Chundan came first with a timing of 4:18:80.

Nadubagam Chundan finished the heats in 4:24 minutes, Champakulam Chundan in 4:26 minutes and Mahadevikad Kattil Thekkethil in 4:27 minutes. This is the fourth consecutive win for Pallathuruthy Boat Club. Pallathuruthy Boat Club completed its hat-trick last time in Mahadevikad Kattil Thekkethil Chundan.

In the third losers final, Jawahar Tayangari rowed by Koduppunna Boat Club came first. Kumarakam Samudra Boat Club's Anari Chundan came first in the second losers final. Niranam Chundan rowed by NCDC Kaippuzhamuttu Kumarakom came first in the first losers final.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was unable to attend the inauguration of the Nehru Trophy boat race since the helicopter could not be landed due to bad weather. Following this, Minister Saji Cherian inaugurated the boating competitions.
