THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: "There’s no need for a dispute over who gets credit for the Vizhinjam project — the people will decide that," said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a press conference. "The credit belongs to the entire state. The past nine years have been crucial for the project, and we did what had to be done during that time. There is fulfilment in that. Just laying the foundation stone is not everything — we’ve brought the project to the stage where ships can now dock. This is not just a symbolic launch with a boat push," he reminded.

"As the LDF government enters its tenth year, the commissioning of the Vizhinjam International Seaport is a gift to every Malayali. This is not merely the launch of a new port — it marks the beginning of a new era that gives Indian trade and logistics a vital place on the global stage. It has become a reality through the willpower and long-term vision of the Kerala government. Vizhinjam is the port with the highest state government investment in India. Currently, Kerala bears two-thirds of the total projected cost," the CM said.

The Chief Minister emphasized that this proud project, being dedicated to the nation during the government's 10th anniversary, offers a new direction for India’s economic growth.

Opposition Leader invited again
The Chief Minister addressed the Congress’s demand to name the project after Oommen Chandy, saying that it was merely their wish. "I don’t believe the Leader of the Opposition will skip the ceremony. Once again, I extend a welcome," he said. He explained that invitations were sent out at the last stage and that final decisions were made by the Prime Minister’s Office. The state’s list included the Opposition Leader. The inclusion of the BJP State President was done by the PMO. The state’s list did not include the LDF convenor or party secretaries.

Brought family along because they're family
When asked about his daughter and grandchildren accompanying him during the Vizhinjam visit, the Chief Minister clarified that it was simply because they are his family. He denied claims that his grandson participated in official meetings. "It’s nothing new — I’ve taken him along to many functions since he was a child," he said, adding that no discussions were held about the Prime Minister’s security during the visit.
