Women run over by truck in front of husband; incident in Chengannur

CHENGANNUR: In a ghastly collision, a Taurus lorry rammed into a two-wheeler killing a housewife. Venmani native Ajitha(47) died in the crash. The incident happened at ITI junction at 11 am on Monday. Ajitha was along with her husband Omanakuttan and was traveling from Venmani to Chengannur district hospital. The accident happened when the lorry loaded with soil tried a reckless overtaking and horrifically ran over the scooter. The wheel of the lorry ran over Ajitha’s torso and then dragged her to almost 5m ahead before reaching a screeching halt.

After getting the information, the police and the fire force reached the spot and helped Ajitha out from the wheels of the lorry. She was taken to a private hospital in Tiruvalla and later to Kottayam Medical College Hospital but could not be saved. Her husband Omankuttan suffered only minor injuries. The couple have two sons.
