KOTTAYAM: Puthuppally LDF candidate Jaick C Thomas received bail on an attempted murder case dating back to 2012. Kottayam Additional Sub Court granted bail in the 2012 case that saw stones being hurled at a march conducted by Youth Front(M) workers. Jaick was the fifth accused in the case.

The Youth Front's march to MG University was pelted with stones from within the campus. Michael James, the Youth Front general secretary back then suffered serious injuries. Meanwhile, Jaick got bail in yet another case where he was accused of vandalizing Kattachira Vellapally College of Engineering. In the incident that happened in 2016, the court issued an arrest warrant after Jaick failed to appear for previous hearing sessions. It was to escape the legal muddle that Jaick surrendered before the court the other day and took bail.

In 2016, the SFI-led strike turned violent and the college saw ruthless scenes as cadres of the left party vandalized the equipment and rooms in the building. A case was registered against many people including Jaick who was the president of SFI during that time. In 2021, Jaick similarly obtained bail from the court to prevent the court from impeding his candidacy against Oommen Chandy for assembly elections.
