KYC to become mandatory for mobile connections

NEW DELHI: The Union Ministry of Telecom has directed operators to strictly implement the KYC (Know Your Customer) process to protect consumers from fraud.

Important Instructions:

  • Scan the QR code of the Aadhaar card and collect the details.
  • If a mobile number is disconnected, the number will not be allocated to a new customer for up to 90 days.
  • KYC information should be provided completely while changing the SIM.
  • Outgoing, incoming and SMS are not allowed for 24 hours.
  • Aadhaar e-KYC includes facial biometrics in addition to fingerprints and irises.
  • Business connections will be introduced to organizations. All end users can complete KYC and get connected. The SIM will become active only after the KYC verification is completed.
