Nipah: Strict control in Kozhikode district, four people under treatment

KOZHIKODE: Restrictions have been strengthened in Kozhikode district in the wake of Nipah. At present four people are under treatment due to the infection.

The virus infection was detected in the saliva sample of Muhammad, a native of Maruthonkara, who died on August 30. With the confirmation of Nipah for a native of Cheruvannur as well, a containment zone was also declared within five kilometres of Cheruvannur within the corporation limits. One more week holiday has been announced for the educational institutes of Kozhikode district.

So far, six people have been diagnosed with the virus, including a native of Ayanchery who died after contracting the virus. The test results of 30 samples tested yesterday were negative. 30 samples taken for testing from Iqraa Hospital were negative. One hundred more samples were sent for testing. At the same time, the number of people in the contact list of the virus infected has reached 1080, including 325 health workers. Out of this 225 people are in the high-risk category. 17 people are also in isolation.
