Nipah outbreak: 13 samples test negative, 406 contacts under surveillance

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The samples of 13 people in the contact list of the 14-year-old who died of Nipah in Malappuram have turned negative. The test results came out from the Pune Virology Lab on Monday night.

406 people were on the contact list. 194 of them are in high-risk category. 139 people are health workers. The health department conducted a survey of 7239 houses in the area where the 14-year-old died. Out of this 439 people are suffering from fever. 4 of them are in contact with the child. The same virus variant found in 2023 is confirmed. According to reports, there are four people in the contact list, including three members of a family in Thiruvananthapuram. Two of them are on the primary contact list.

Meanwhile, the health department has released the detailed route map of the deceased 14-year-old. The health department has advised those who have been to the places on the new route map to inform the Nipah control room. A 14-year-old native of Pandikkad, Malappuram, who was in a critical condition on ventilator, died yesterday at 10.50 am. The situation worsened when he suffered a heart attack at 10.50 am. Minister Veena George said in a press conference that there is no situation to worry about and preventive measures are being intensified.
