NEW DELHI: Lakshadweep MP Muhammad Faisal has once again been disqualified from Parliament. The Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued an order to this effect. The Kerala High Court did not grant a stay on his guilty verdict in the attempted murder case against him. As a result, his Lok Sabha membership has been revoked. The Lok Sabha Secretariat issued the notification citing the High Court judgment. This marks the second time that Mohammad Faisal has been disqualified from his MP position.
He was initially disqualified after the Kavarathi court sentenced him in the attempted murder case. Subsequently, Muhammad Faisal appealed to the Supreme Court and obtained a stay on his sentence. Following this, he was reinstated as an MP. However, the case was later brought before the High Court and when the High Court declined to grant a stay on the sentence, the Lok Sabha Secretariat issued an order today, resulting in his disqualification.
The Kavarathi District Sessions Court sentenced NCP leader Muhammad Faisal to ten years in prison in the case involving the attempted assassination of former Union Minister PM Sayeed's son-in-law and Congress worker Muhammad Salih during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. This led to his disqualification and the subsequent cancellation of his Lok Sabha membership. Muhammad Faisal has been serving as the Lakshadweep MP since 2014.
