HANGZHOU: India created an upset in the men’s compound archery event, easing past South Korea (235-230) to win gold. Malayali Deepika Pallikal along with Harinder Pal Singh won gold in squash mixed doubles. With this, India's gold medal tally reached 21. India is currently in the fourth position in the medal rankings.
In the morning, Jyoti Surekha, Athi Gopichand, and Parneet Kaur won the first gold for India in the women’s archery event. Later, Ojas Praveen, Abhishek Verma, and Prathamesh Samadhan won gold in the men's category as well.
This was India's third gold in archery. Deepika and Harinder's team won the gold by fighting against Malaysia. But Sourav Ghoshal had to settle for silver in the men's singles final, losing to N Gain Yeow of Malaysia. Antim Panghal won bronze in women's freestyle wrestling.
