For P V Gangadharan, cinema was always an integral part of his life even as he made his mark in the media and industry. He produced the first film with 30 of his friends. The shooting of the second film with Kamal Haasan started but could not be completed due to some reasons. He started his own production company Grihalakshmi Productions with the third film. Sujatha was his first film. The film was made with big stars like Prem Nazir, Jayabharathi and K P Ummer.
P V Gangadharan introduced the famous musician Raveendra Jain in Malayalam. It was Yesudas who took the initiative for it. Lata Mangeshkar was initially roped in for a song in the film, but she backed out due to some inconvenience. Her sister Asha Bhosle was later roped in. Gangadharan donated the income from the film's song 'Ashrithavatsalane Krishna...' to Guruvayur temple.
Gangadharan fully supported director Hariharan while making the film form of the Vadakkan Veeragatha written by M T, making Chadiyan Chanthu of Vadakkan Pattu, a good one. From swords and shields to gold ornaments, Gangadharan is a producer who brought the original to create a time that goes back centuries. A huge set was arranged next to the Kollamkod Palace.
Wife first hears story
Gangadharan himself had said that whatever stories come to him, his wife Sherin first hears them. Sherin is the daughter of former Advocate General Ratna Singh. A story will be made into a film only if she approves. His wife was the first to hear the story of all the 22 films he produced. Later he will trust his director and the script writer.
Gangadharan, the producer, then will not involve in anything. He had often said that it was not his policy to interfere with the creativity of the director, the captain of the film.
The marriage of Mohanlal and Suchithra happened due to Gangadharan. Her father Balaji first told his friend Gangadharan that she wants to marry Mohanlal. Gangadharan then took the initiative and arranged an opportunity for Lal and Suchitra to meet. The Pennukanal function was held at his house.
