Mathrubhumi director and film producer P V Gangadharan passes away

KOZHIKODE: Mathrubhumi director and noted film producer P V Gangadharan passed away Friday morning. He was 80. He died at a private hospital in Kozhikode at 6:30 in the morning. He was under treatment for the past one week. He will be laid to rest tomorrow.

He was the producer of several hit films including Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Angadi, Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal, Achuvinte Amma, Notebook etc. He has produced more than twenty films produced under the banner of Grihalakshmi Productions. His first film was Hariharan's 'Sujatha'.

Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal, Kanakinavu, Achuvinte Amma and Notebook have bagged state awards. Shantam won the national award for best film. The last released film was Janaki Jaane, which was produced in association with S Cube which had Navya Nair in the lead role.


He entered student politics through KSU. He was a member of AICC. He contested as a Congress candidate from Kozhikode North but was defeated in 2011.


He was the chairman of Malabar Airport Karma Samithi and Train Karma Samithi. He had served as chairman of Kerala State Film Development Corporation and President of Kerala Film Chamber.


P V Gangadharan was born in 1943 to P V Samy, founder of the KTC Group of Companies and Madhavi Samy. Mathrubhumi managing editor P V Chandran is his brother. He leaves behind his wife Sherin and children Shenuga, Shegna and Sherga. They are the owners of S Cube Cinemas. His son-in-laws Jayathilak, Vigil and Sandeep.
