Heavy rain predicted in state; hilly areas on alert, ban on fishing

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a possibility of isolated heavy rain in the state today. There will be more rain in hilly areas. The officials informed that people should not go fishing in Kerala-Karnataka coast and Lakshadweep coast.


Strong winds with gusts of 45 to 55 kmph at occasional gusts of up to 65 kmph and bad weather conditions are likely over Southwest and Central West Arabian Sea. The Central Meteorological Department has warned that strong winds with a speed of 40 to 45 km per hour and at some occasions up to 55 km per hour are likely over South Bay of Bengal and Central West Bay of Bengal.

The Central Meteorological Department has said that a double low pressure system is likely to make landfall over South India in the next 72 hours and the onset will be weak. The low pressure in the Arabian Sea will move towards the west and north-west in 24 hours and become a strong low pressure. It is likely to strengthen again tomorrow and become a depression.
