Elderly man sets ablaze son and family; daughter-in-law succumbs to injuries while undergoing treatment

THRISSUR: A woman, who was set ablaze along with her family by her father-in-law last month, succumbed to her injuries. The deceased is Liji wife of Kottekkadan Veetil Joji. Joji and the couple's 12-year-old son Tendulkar, who suffered 90 percent burns, had died last month. The incident happened on September 14.

It was Joji's father Johnson who set Joji and his family on fire. Johnson and his wife Sara were also there in the house. According to reports, Johnson poured petrol on the trio and set them ablaze inside the house. He had locked his wife inside a room ahead of the attack and later attempted suicide. Following this, the locals doused the fire and rushed the family to hospital. Earlier, Johnson had destroyed a motor in the house.

Johnson and Joji had frequent quarrels. As the issues between the two worsened, Joji and his family moved to a rented house. Later, Joji and his family returned to Johnson's house following the intervention of relatives. Johnson is a security guard. Joji is a lorry driver.
