THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The book exhibition of Samatha, which tells the story of several women who were not properly marked in history, is getting attention at the Kerala Assembly International Book Festival. This women's collective which was formed on November 1, 2010, under the name 'Samatha- A Collective for Gender Justice' has been continuing its journey for the last 13 years.
Samatha is a 29-member women's collective with Ajitha TG as Chairperson and Prof TA Usha Kumari as Managing Trustee.
Samatha has already published 93 books, including books for children and adults. Samatha is the first women's collective in the world to participate in the 2018 Sharjah International Book Festival. Every year, Samatha presents an award comprising Rs 20,000 and a citation to selected scientists, farmers and women talents. This organization also provides a pension of Rs.1000 each to two women who are economically backward and are suffering from the infirmities of old age. The organisation is finding the entire amount for this from the revenue generated through book publications, Samatha Managing Trustee Prof T.A.Usha Kumari told Kerala Kaumudi Online.
Books such as 'Inquilabinte Idimuzhakkam', 'Chukanna Rosa' and 'Amazon- Narabojikal Kaadukayarumbol' are available at Samatha's stall at the Assembly International Book Festival at discounted prices. Apart from this, Samatha also has a drama group formed under the leadership of women. Samatha has performed plays on more than 2500 stages inside and outside Kerala.
The book festival, which started on November 1, will end on November 7. There are more than 255 stalls of around 160 publishers in the book festival.
