THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government is exerting pressure on local bodies and cooperative societies to raise funds so that the Nava Kerala Sadas can be held in style. The Registrar of Co-operative Societies has directed the Co-operative Societies to spend the necessary money to conduct the program with grandeur.

The Local Self Government Department has also issued an order allowing Gram Panchayats to spend up to Rs 50,000, Municipalities and Block Panchayats up to Rs 1,00,000, Corporations up to Rs 2,00,000 and District Panchayats up to Rs 3,00,000 from their own funds as and when requested by the respective organizing committee. The circular issued by the registrar of Co-operatives requires co-operative societies to cooperate to meet the expenses related to the conduct of the Nava Kerala Sadas.

The Nava Kerala Sadas will begin on November 18th in Manjeshwar. The Chief Minister and other ministers will visit all the assembly constituencies of the state. Apart from interacting with the people, the ministers will also hold talks with people from various walks of life. The Chief Minister and Ministers will travel in a specially prepared KSRTC SWIFT bus. The venue will be air-conditioned.

Meanwhile, the state government is receiving widespread criticism from the opposition for spending crores on the Keraleeyam event at a time when the state is struggling to meet its daily expenses.
